All settings at a glance: servers, ports and security

Want to use your email address in a mail program, such as Outlook, Apple Mail, Thunderbird or the mail app on your phone? Then you'll need the details below. They're the same for every program and for every hosting and email package from WebOké. Only the server name differs depending on your situation.

The settings

SettingWhat do you enter?
Account typeIMAP (recommended) or POP3
Incoming server (IMAP or POP3)your domain name, for example yourdomain.com, or the server name of your package, for example linux2023.webawere.nl (see below)
Outgoing server (SMTP)the same name as the incoming server
IMAP port993, security SSL/TLS
POP3 port995, security SSL/TLS
SMTP port587, security STARTTLS (or port 465 with SSL/TLS)
Username (both incoming and outgoing)your full email address, for example info@yourdomain.com
Passwordthe password for this email address
Outgoing server authenticationon, with the same username and password (sometimes called "normal password")

Haven't created the email address yet? Do that first (see Creating an e-mail address).

Which server name should you use?

You have two options. Both lead to the same mail server.

1. Your domain name (if your website is hosted with WebOké)

Enter your domain name, without www or mail in front of it: yourdomain.com. This works if two conditions are met:

Not sure? Go to https://yourdomain.com in your browser. If you see your own website with a padlock and no warning, you're all set.

The advantage: the name always keeps working, even if we ever move your package to a newer server.

2. The server name of your package (always works)

The server name looks like linux2023.webawere.nl; the number differs per package. This always works and never gives a certificate warning. Use it in any case if:

  • your website is hosted elsewhere and only your mail is with WebOké, for example with an email package such as Email One;
  • your domain doesn't point to WebOké yet, for example during a move;
  • you get a certificate warning when using your domain name.

You can find the server name in My WebOké under My Products, in the Server column. It's also included in the welcome email for your package.

What about mail.yourdomain.com?

After creating an address, DirectAdmin shows mail.yourdomain.com as the server, and some programs fill this in automatically. This only works if mail.yourdomain.com points to your package and is included in the SSL certificate. If not, you'll get a certificate warning or the connection will fail. That's why we recommend using your domain name or the server name instead. Have you already set up mail.yourdomain.com and does everything work without warnings? Then there's no need to change anything.

Why use the full email address as your username?

The server holds mailboxes for many domains. Only the full address tells the server which mailbox you mean. So never enter just info, but info@yourdomain.com. The only exception is the default account of your package (see The default email account of your package).

Why port 587 or 465 and not 25?

Many internet providers block port 25 for sending. Port 587 (with STARTTLS) and 465 (with SSL/TLS) work everywhere and are encrypted. Choose either one; both work fine.

Setting it up per program

Not working? Read Sending or receiving doesn't work: how to fix it.

Can I do this in My WebOké too?

Yes. Simply ask the AI assistant in My WebOké, for example "What settings should I use for info@yourdomain.com?". The assistant will check live whether your domain name works as a server (does your domain point to your package and is there a valid certificate?) and give you the correct server name, ports and username.
